Tayammum (dry bath) - according to the madhhab of Imam Abu Hanifa

Imagine that you are in a situation where you need water to perform Voodoo, but you cannot find it. Or you get sick and cannot touch the water with your bare hands. You can execute Tayammum, an alternative to voodoo that does not require the use of water.

  1. 1 Select a clean location. It can be something natural, like stones, sand or grass.
  2. 2 Quote the following lines:

Bismillaah hirahmaan nirrahiim "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the most merciful"

  • 3 Do niya, or the intention to perform the Tayammum.
  • 4 Put your hands on the ground.
  • 5 Raise and rub your hands to make sure that there is no dust on the surface of the palm.
  • 6 Rub your face with your hands; the part from the right ear to the left belongs to the Face.
  • 7 Repeat steps 4 and 5.
  • 8 Rub your hands. With your left hand, rub your right hand from your fingers to the elbow, and back along the inside of the hand to the hand. Do the same with the other hand using your right hand.
  • Tayammum time

Tayammum can be performed before the time of prayer, which makes it possible to perform all the daytime farzes and sunnats with one tayammum.

Tayammum can be done for those who do not have ablutions of small and large, but for women - only after the completion of menstruation and postpartum discharge. It is allowed only if it is not possible to find enough water for ablution, or if there is water, but there are reasons to not use water and these reasons are as follows:

    1. If the water is at a distance of 1866.24 meters.

    2. There is water, but the existing disease does not allow using it, since if a person performs ablution with water, then the disease may intensify.

    3. Cold, which, when performing a large or small ablution, can cause severe frostbite, which can lead to organ loss - provided that there is no way to warm the water.

    4. Enemies or predatory animals located between him and water.

    5. Fear of thirst at home or at a companion, or an animal, or a dog guarding the herd.

    6. There is a well with water, but no bucket or rope.

    7. If water is needed for making dough, but not for making soup.

    Wayammum Method

The palms of both hands are applied to the ground and move them back and forth. Then, brushing off each other’s hands, they run them across the face. Further, as for the first time, they touch the earth with their hands. Four fingers of the left hand are held on the back of the right hand, starting from the tips of the fingers to the elbow inclusively. Then, with the entire palm of the left hand, draw along the inside of the right hand so that the thumb of the left hand touches the thumb of the right hand with the inside, but not touching the palms. A similar action is repeated with the right hand. At tayammum it is necessary to bring the earth to all places on the face and hands. If there is a ring on the finger, then you need to twist it or remove it at the time of the tayammum. Wipe with a whole hand.

It is not enough to wipe with three fingers or less. Tayammum is accomplished by touching the ground with palms, preferably in the same place.

It is necessary to remove from the skin what prevents the rubbing (resin, wax, grease, oil, etc.).

Tayammum can be done by what is similar in appearance to the earth, for example: it is not only the earth itself, but also sand, stone, lime, mountain salt.

It is forbidden to make tayammum on the ground on which there was a nadzhas (impurity), but over time its trace disappeared.

    Intent when committing tayammum

When performing the tayammum, intention is obligatory, and when performing ablution, it is desirable.

If the Muslim performed the tayammum with the intention of reciting the Qur'an or entering the mosque, or to visit the graves or for the adhan, then he is not allowed to perform prayer with this tayammum. Intention is made in order to purify oneself from najas, to allow namaz and other things that are not allowed when washing is broken. For the intention to be valid, three conditions must be met:

    1. be a Muslim

    2. to be mumayyiz, that is, to be able to distinguish good from bad.

    3. be able to fulfill the intention.

    Tayammum has two rukna:

    1. rubbing the face.

    2. rubbing hands, including elbows.

    Desirable actions when performing tayammum:

    1. Start by reading Basmalla.

    2. Follow the order (sequence).

    3. To fulfill the above rules one after another, continuously.

    4. Wipe with your right hand earlier than with your left.

    5. Draw hands back and forth with the hands attached to the ground, spreading apart your fingers so that the ground falls between them.

    6. Shake off excess soil from the palms.

    7. To postpone the tayammum until the end of the namaz time, if there is a chance or hope to get water by the end of the namaz time.

    8. Start performing tayammum from the upper part of the face, turning towards Qibla.

    Tayammum solutions

It is allowed to perform tayammum to a healthy person in the city when they brought the janaz and he is not a guardian, and he has fears that if he takes a bath with water, he will miss the namaz-janaz. He does tayammum and performs janazah prayer. And also to those who are afraid that if he will do a bath in the water, he will miss the holiday prayer completely. But if he manages to part of the holiday prayer, then he is not allowed to do tayammum. But it is not allowed to perform tayammum for fear of missing Friday or obligatory prayers, because they have a replacement. For example, if muslim missed Friday prayer, then he commits lunch, and if obligatory, then he commits missed prayer.

It is not the duty of the person who is performing the tayammum to search for water when there is no certainty that there can be water nearby. But if he thinks that there may be water nearby, then he is not allowed to proceed with the tayammum until he begins to search for it at a distance of about 200 meters. And if at the same time he will make tayammum without first searching for water, and perform a prayer, then he needs to renew the prayer, even if after performing the prayer he searched for water, but did not find it.

If his companion has water, then before committing the tayammum, he must ask her for it. And if he refuses or wants to sell for too high a price, even if he has money, or for the usual price, but he has no money, then he can make a tayammum.

If a person wakes up defiled and needs to bathe completely, but he has water sufficient only for a small bath, but not for bathing, then he does not have to perform a small bath with this water, but you can just make a tayammum. But if after this he will be disturbed with a small bath, then he needs to make a small bath with his water with water and a tayammum from a full bath.

If most of the organs of small ablution, which needs to be done in small ablutions, or most of the organs of the body that needs to be fully washed, will have wounds, then tayammum can be made. But if in both cases there will be fewer injured organs, then they should bathe or have a bath with water. And you can not combine between bathing and tayammum.

If the reason why tayammum had to be done is because people, for example, muslim was captured by the enemies and they do not allow him to take a bath with water, or if he was sent to prison, or they told him: “If you take a bath, I will kill you! ”- then prayers, performed with tayammum, must be restored after the departure of the obstacle. He who has his arms and legs cut off and has wounds on his face - he performs the prayer without bathing with water and without tayammum - and does not renew them.

How to make Tayammum (cleansing the earth) to a Muslim

    Tayammum is performed as follows:

    1. It is necessary to strike with the palms of the earth and make the intention with the heart, for example, with the words: "I set out (set out) to perform Tayammum in order to have the right to perform the obligatory prayer." Intention must be made after raising hands from the ground and continues until hands touch the face
    2. After this, you need to rub your entire face (with the edges of the face - vertically - from the top of the forehead to the lower part of the jaw with your hands with dust (with sand), and in width - from one ear to the other (ears are not part of the face)
    3. At the end, hit the ground with your palms and wipe the right hand first, and then the left. Dust should reach all parts of the rubbed hand.

Having performed the Tayammum, a person is allowed to do everything that requires a large ablution and a small one. That is, it makes no difference whether a person is cleansed with a gusl or tayammum.

A detailed description of the actions of Tayammum

Before we begin to make Tayammum, we must make sure that the earth meets all conditions. A place about which a Muslim’s hands beat must have the following properties:

    1. Must be one in which dust adheres to the body when touched
    2. Tayammum is also allowed to make sand containing dust.
    3. Clay, in which there is no dust, cannot be used as Tayammum. Nor can it be mixed with flour, lime, ground saffron or anything else.
    4. Before using the land for Tayammum, we must make sure that it does not contain impurities (najas)
    5. There is no difference in the form of the earth, be it white, gray, red or black
    6. From one place Tayammum can make several people

When committing Tayammum, it is advisable to have detailed knowledge of the required actions. These actions are divided into 4 parts:

    1. Intention

The intention must be done with the heart, but at the same time, it is desirable to pronounce the language. Without it, the duties of prayer and prayer itself will not be valid. When pronouncing in the intention the words that state the fulfillment of the obligatory (fard) prayer, the desired prayers also fall within this intention. But if on the contrary, that is, having made an intention to perform the desired prayer, this Tayammum cannot perform the obligatory prayer. The intention must be done at the moment the hands touch the ground, and it must remain until touching any part of the face

    2. Face wiping

When wiping the face, we must cover all the boundaries of the face and the beard, no matter how long it is. Dust should be brought to a prominent part of the skin of the face, not limited to a simple touch of the hands. Due to the fact that bringing dust to the bottom of the eyebrows and mustache is a very complicated process, this is not the responsibility of Tayammum. As stated in the hadith above, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) confined himself to striking the earth and running his hands over his face and both hands. But, since there are no such difficulties in bathing, bringing water to the base of the eyebrows and mustache is mandatory.

    3. Wipe both hands

After the second hand strike on the ground, turning the palms up, you need to put the inner part of the fingers of the left hand, on which there is dust, on the upper part of the fingers of the right hand, so that the fingertips do not protrude from each other, and hold it to the wrist.

After the left hand reaches the wrist of the right, the fingers of the left hand must be bent into the inner side of the ulnar bone, in which the rest of the palm remains untouched, and thus, you need to hold them to the elbow. After the fingers of the left hand reach the elbow of the right (including the elbow), the left hand must be turned to the inside of the right and, putting the rest of the palm of the left on the inside of the right, it must be held to the wrist (that is, put the palm of the left hand, not including the fingers, to the place where the biceps begins and leading it to the wrist). With all this, the thumb of the left hand should be in a raised state, so that in the end, when it comes back to the wrist, draw it along the upper part of the thumb of the right hand.

In the same way, you need to wipe the left hand.

The reason for all this is the hadith transmitted from Aslam bin Sharik at-Tamimi, who was the servant of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), as well as the guide of his riding camel: “I once said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon me defiled (became a junub) and at that time an ayah about Tayammum was sent down. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Enough for you.” and hit with both hands on the ground, and shaking them a little, wiped their face with them, and then led them along his beard. After that, he again put his hands on the ground and, having collected dust on his hands, after which, having slightly wiped his hands against each other, he wiped both hands with them completely to the elbows. ”

It is obligatory to remove the ring (or ring), if it is on the hand, at the second impact of the hands on the ground, so that the earth reaches this place, it is not enough just to twist or move it, as is allowed in ablution.

All actions of Tayammum should be performed strictly in order. Since Tayammum is a ritual that replaces bathing, in which there is a turn, then he himself must be performed in a certain order.

    Lack of water

Tayammum was introduced into Islam when Muslims found themselves in a situation where they could not find water while traveling. However, if a traveler finds water for bathing, then Tayammu is forbidden for him (unless there is no other reason). In confirmation of this, one can cite the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “ Pure land is a means of ablution for any Muslim until he finds water from " .

Allah, caring for the welfare of his slaves, in his religion established the following rule regarding Tayammum: if a Muslim finds water, but at the same time this water is enough only to quench his thirst and thirst of his mount, then to wash this water as if not. Islam forbids the use of this water for other purposes, having these needs. It is also believed that there is no ablution water if in order to get to the water of a Muslim one will have to risk his life (due to a predator or anyone else), as well as if the water is too far away.

A prerequisite for the commission of Tayammum is that the Muslim, before embarking on it, should look for water properly. And only if the search is in vain, he is allowed to make Tayammum. Another condition is that if the water that a Muslim has found can only be bought, then the following should be considered:

    - if the purchase of water can lead to the fact that a Muslim can remain in need of something,

    - if a Muslim has debt in a larger amount than he currently has with him,

    - if due to the cost of water for ablution, some necessary foodstuffs will remain in need to overcome the path,

    - if it may lead to a lack of resources to provide food for the mount (or fuel for the vehicle).

When meeting someone who will be ready to give free water for ablution, a Muslim must accept this water. And even if he finds water, but it will not be enough for a complete ablution, a Muslim must use water for what is enough from an ablution.

    Inability to use water

If there is a risk of water entering when washing to some organs, Tayammum is allowed to do it. The reason for this may be illness or injury. Even if the use of water can slow the recovery of the Muslim, and even if he is simply afraid of the time from the use of water, Tayammum is allowed to use. Pass from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) where he says:

“We went on a safar, and a stone fell on one of us, which wounded his head, after which he somehow had a mourn (after which he had to swim) and he asked his comrades if they knew for him what or the relief by which he can make Tayammum, to which they replied that he did not have such relief in the Sharia and that he had the opportunity to swim, after which he bathed and died from it. And when we came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) he was told about what had happened, to which he said: “You killed him, was it really impossible to ask, when you do not know, Verily, the healing of ignorance is a question. It would be enough for him to make Tayammum and remove the dust from his wound (since it is said that the wound was on the head, there was a possibility that it was on the face, which is part of Tayammum) or put a bandage on a wound, make a mask on it and wash the remaining body. "

Tayammum is allowed to do even because of the severe cold, which can lead to negative consequences. The reason for this is the hadith, transmitted from Amr bin ‘Asa (may Allah be pleased with him) where he says:“ I was polluted on a cold night at the Zatu-Ssalasil gas factory and I was afraid that if I bathe, I would die. And after that I made Tayammum and performed the morning prayer with others. After that, I told the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he said: “Oh Amr, have you prayed with your comrades, being defiled ?!” to which I replied: I heard the words of the Almighty, which says: “Do not kill yourself, for Allah is merciful to you” and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not object to my words. "

If it is possible to bathe in undamaged parts of the body that cannot lead to deterioration or death due to ingress of water, then Tayammum is not allowed in these places.
