Modern children live in a multinational world. Together with their parents, they travel to different countries and continents, learn new languages, adapt to new cultures. But it is very important to remember that little Russians have their own Motherland - a word with a capital letter. Who and how should nurture patriotic feelings in the younger generation and how not to “go too far” in this very delicate occupation?
What does the homeland begin with?
“I learned that I have a huge family: a path, and a forest, in the field - every spikelet, small river, the sky is blue - it's all mine, dear!” A children's poem represents the first steps in a child’s knowledge of his homeland. It is with the help of simple words, games, songs that young children remember that the world around them is not only a playground, but also something more - their home, their Fatherland. Of course, it is difficult for preschoolers to explain the abstract concept - “Homeland”, it is easier to replace it with a more affordable “home” or “home country”.
Child psychologists and educators recommend raising patriotism in their children from a very young age. What is laid down by parents and teachers in the first ten years of a child’s life will remain with him for long and long years.
What is “love for the motherland” and how to educate it
“Patriotism is a love of the fatherland, loyalty to him, the desire to serve his interests with his actions” (Big Soviet Encyclopedia, 1969-1978).
Each person in his own way understands the phrase "love for the homeland," and each family forms its own unique vision of the country as a Fatherland. Children receive the first knowledge about their state precisely from their parents, relatives, and only then from teachers and friends. Does grandparents watch the news in the evenings? In what vein do they discuss what is happening? Whether the whole family attends celebrations on public holidays, whether he participates in the elections of government bodies - all this is put off in the head of our children and is reproduced in subsequent years in society.
The strongest foundation for a healthy national sense of self is built in the family. If the father constantly emphasizes the negative features of a particular nation, the mother dreams of living abroad, and grandparents abuse the government, the child will undoubtedly absorb this attitude and will copy it, often even unconsciously, in adulthood. Depending on social experience, a negative attitude in a child, and then a teenager, may spill out in a completely unexpected way: from the banal desecration of historical monuments to participation in radical nationalist groups.
A healthy national identity and respect for people of other nations and peoples allows the child to independently understand what his native country and its inhabitants mean to him, how he will relate to Russian history, whether he wants to be proud of his nationality in the future.
How to teach a child to love his country
The world’s picture for children is drawn by adults, therefore, first of all, it is necessary to monitor the hygiene of speech and not allow yourself to be offensive to the symbols of statehood, national history and national events. For example, if by the Victory Day the residents of the metropolis amicably hang a St. George ribbon on their clothes, then the child will probably be curious to find out why, and most likely, he will want to hang one for himself. You should not dismiss his curiosity: tell the baby what this striped piece of fabric means for the Russian people and why it should not be thrown or spoiled.
Explain to the child what is happening in the country in an accessible language: why mourning for those who died in disasters is declared, why fireworks are fired on city and state holidays, why are veterans congratulated on May 9. Involve children in urban subbotniks - this will help to cultivate a caring attitude to nature, give flowers to war veterans on days of remembrance and festivities, arrange educational and recreational events for children dedicated to national culture and creativity - this way you will cultivate respect for elders in your child, veterans and national identities.
Introduce the children to the history of their homeland. Explain the better the children will know it, the easier it will be for them to understand the significance of what is happening today and the more clearly they will present the future. So, children, learning some specific facts, observing the surrounding life, will be able to imagine through their simplest analysis, generalization of impressions that their hometown or village is part of the country.
Of course, the educational institution - a kindergarten, school, lyceum, then college, university has a huge impact on the formation of a child’s personality. Those gaps in patriotic education that the family has not filled can fill the educational institution.
You, as a parent, can directly influence the organization of additional activities at school. Discuss with the class teacher the possibilities of visiting museums, exhibitions, performances, organize the participation of schoolchildren in historical reconstructions or filming of historical films. For your part, motivate the child to participate in school initiatives - to play a role in the school play about the war, draw a wall newspaper about the local nature, make a model of Russian armored vehicles, etc.
“But” in patriotic education
In any case, you need to know the measure. This also applies to the patriotic education of children. There is a very fine line between sound national identity and nationalism. When instilling in a child a love of the motherland, one should never compare himself with other nations, especially in a negative way. The opposition “we — they” gives rise to hidden hostility. If during the course of a child’s life he is confronted with a conflict situation involving “non-Russians,” then hostility can develop into intolerance for the whole nation as a whole.
On the other hand, it is in kindergarten and school that children can get the first (and most memorable) negative experience in terms of national self-identification. A child can be teased for belonging to a particular nation, point out the characteristic features inherent in a particular nation, while offenders often do not even understand the meaning of insults, but simply echo what they heard from adults. The task of teachers in such cases is to control and instruct. Competent teachers and child psychologists are able to find an approach both to offenders (to explain, give an example, even to punish) and to “victims” (to support, to teach not to take gravely offensive words).
In order to balance the patriotic feelings of the child, attention should be paid to other cultures. Gently, without pressure, show the child that the world is great and the diversity of the people living in it is just as great. Mark the positive features of various national groups (especially those that are represented in our country), tell them about the history of different nations, in no case do not forbid children to be friends and play with children of other nations.
Love for the Motherland, patriotic education is part of the development of the personality of a little man, so any deviations in behavior should be monitored, and then find out the reason.
Before I ask this question, I’ll tell you a little about myself. So my motives will become clearer. At the moment I am 25 years old, I live in the outback, famous for red cowards, I have a university degree in business informatics (understand this as you want) and work in the field of international procurement. In other words, my university, where we were taught programming by the people who last did IT on punch cards, so discouraged me from coding further that one fine day I got out of the bus seat with the words “fucked in my mouth” and got out two stops ahead of destination.
Although I fully admit that in fact I am just lazy and stupid. One way or another, I did not appear more in the magistracy of the faculty of Higher Mathematics and Computer Science. Then there were several places of work, ranging from very poor to industrial enterprises on a national scale. Everywhere I held the position of manager for this or that. I won’t dwell on what office work in Russia is, you already know this very well. At the moment, I am distinguished from my colleagues by only a few years of age difference and my absence of children and mortgages. But what distinguishes me from my superiors is sooo much of what. Moreover, the biggest difference, besides the difference in salary, is precisely the class difference. In the minds of people there is an opinion firmly that there is a certain caste of people “up there” who can do everything, or almost everything, but there are everyone else. The worst thing is not even the existence of this stereotype, but that the category of “everyone else” is ready to put up with it and take it for granted. I’m not ready to say with certainty why this happens - either serfdom still sits firmly in us, or the absence of even minimal attempts to critical thinking, but it is. This manifests itself in everything - in a separate half-empty parking lot for executives with cars bought for huge “13th salaries” (at best) and huddled around “dozens” of slaves or on the roads, when a jeep with the inscription “cuts you” give me a fuck ”on plastic under the license plate, looking down on me, like meat. There is, of course, a separate category of “aspirants” people who naively believe that if you continue to work hard for 600 euros a month, then life will get better very soon, and they will enter this higher caste a little more. When they begin to receive not 600 but 800 euros per month and the prefix “senior manager”, or even “deputy head of the department for transferring information”, then they completely tear down the roof.
A jeep of 2008 or a credit bechechka is bought right there, lichens are born, housing is bought in a man-room, which are built everywhere in Russia and are a real urban catastrophe (this is a separate topic, which is widely covered, for example, by Varlamov). More sawn citizens try to steal to move to the higher caste. Someone sits down right away, while the more successful ones roll back to the same set of tablets on the office, and the Audi with the larva in the child seat.
What is all this retreat to? There is still a third category of people to whom this and that path is disgusting, to which I probably relate myself. Like any creative person, forgive Mr. Lord, I want to create something for someone, and not just shift the paper. I would like to make some decisions that really affect something and make any process better (I’m too dumb to create rockets and invent new electronic devices). In Russia, the only way to be involved in solving any issue is to go to that same parking lot with retractable cars and pork faces looking from there. The path of the manager with the licenses and the mortgage does not appeal to me either, and I began to think - but what do they have there? I deliberately will not talk about the state in which we currently have various political and social institutions, medicine, education, about the possibility of sitting on a bottle for any reason - you all see everything perfectly well, so the question of getting a shit the tractor appeared as if by itself.
So, where to start the tractor, how to do it, where to get the money, what to do next? I have been asking all these questions for the past year and I want, firstly, to systematize for myself what I have already dug up, and secondly, it can come in handy for someone.
