About this add-on
Call the Send Later command (Ctrl + Shift + Return) from the message editing window so that instead of simply copying the message to your Outbox, it would be sent the next time you are online or send Unsent Messages. This command can be changed in a dialog box that allows you to specify the time the message was sent.
To use the built-in “Send Later” function in Thunderbird (for example, copy it to the Outbox), you can set a specific time and date or press the keys “15 minutes later”, or “30 minutes later”, or “2 hours later” ", or" Put in the outbox. "
See the User Guide for more information.
Send Later uses Andrei Plummer's SugarJS. Thank you Andrey!

To create a new letter in Mozilla Thunderbird there is a key combination Ctrl + N. You can also create a new letter by selecting "Create" - "Message" on the toolbar.
A message creation window will appear with the following elements:
- Recipient address - there may be several, including hidden ones,
- The subject of the message is optional;
- The body of the letter with the formatting bar is your message,
- Attachments - used if you need to attach a document or file.
When switching to Mozilla Thunderbird, Outlook Express users are faced with the fact that in this program each recipient is assigned a separate field for the address, and not a list of addresses is formed, which is more familiar. Moreover, in the drop-down list opposite the respondent, you can set the usual sending to the address, sending a copy or blind carbon copy.
For mass mailing, a very convenient tool is the Mozilla Thunderbird address book (it is activated by pressing the F9 button). Several recipients can be selected by clicking on them with the left mouse button while holding down the Ctrl key. At the beginning of use, this may seem uncomfortable, since you will have to add contacts manually from the received correspondence by clicking on the image of an asterisk. In the future, Mozilla Thunderbird uses the sent letters to automatically fill in the address book: it is enough to send a letter to a specific address once to get the data in the “Collected addresses” folder.
Mozilla Thunderbird supports drag’n’drop technology. You can simply drag and drop selected contacts to whom you want to send an email from the address book to the To field.
Naturally, you can type the address manually if you remember it by heart. After all the fields are completed, click the "Send" button - and the letter will go to the selected recipients. The Mozilla Thunderbird mailing list has no limit on the number of recipients: you can add as many addresses as you see fit.
Gmail does not keep records of who sent the blind copy of the message, so such messages are deleted from the Sent folder.
How to sign in Mozilla Thunderbird
When you send a digitally signed message from Mozilla Thunderbird, information that verifies your identity is attached to the letter. This insures against intruders and ensures that the letter comes from the declared sender. Also, thanks to the embedded key, the message can be encrypted, and only the addressee to whom it was intended can read it.
Before you configure your signature in Mozilla Thunderbird, you must install the Enigmail add-on. You can download it by clicking on the Mozilla Thunderbird main menu icon and selecting the “Add-ons” item, the “Plugins” section and entering a name in the search bar. To install the extension, click the corresponding button.
After installing this Mozilla Thunderbird add-on, a window appears prompting you to launch the Setup Wizard. In the process, the extension will offer to install the GnuPG cryptographic encryption tool.
Installing this Mozilla Thunderbird item is straightforward: just click the Next button a few times.
After the installation is completed, click the Finish button and the Next button in the Enigmail settings window.
In the next window, the wizard prompts you to create a Mozilla Thunderbird password to encrypt chat. The process of creating keys may take several minutes (depending on the power of the PC). When finished, click the "Next" button.
The installer will offer to create a “Certificate of revocation”, which should be applied if the key pair used by Mozilla Thunderbird is compromised. For the correct creation, the libassuan.dll and libgpg-error.dll libraries must be present on the computer. After the installation is complete, you must enable Mozilla Thunderbird Internet access in the Windows firewall.
To receive encrypted and signed messages from respondents, you must first send them your public key. To do this, in the message that you are going to send, select "Attach the public key" in the Enigmail menu.
Upon receiving such a key (which has the extension .asc) as an attachment, Mozilla Thunderbird will automatically recognize the file type and offer to import it. At the end of the process, click OK.
If you have the public key of the subscriber for which you want to authenticate the message with an electronic signature, click the "Sign a letter" button. Mozilla Thunderbird will perform this procedure automatically.
Mozilla Thunderbird Mail Tags and Grouping
With the help of labels, you can group incoming mail into categories or, for example, separate work correspondence from personal one. You can use the Mozilla Thunderbird Quick Filter Panel to share this task.
To add a tag, select the letter, select the “Label” element on the toolbar and click on the tag that you want to add.
Each label is assigned a separate digit. To quickly assign a label, just click it when highlighting a message. The mark is removed by repeated pressing.
You can change the colors of existing tags or add your own. To do this, click on the button of the main menu and go to the "Settings" - "Display" - "Tags" section.
If the quick filtering panel is hidden, click on it on the toolbar. You can configure the display of correspondence by clicking the "Show only messages with tags" button. Only those that have one or more labels will be displayed in the list of letters. To show only messages with only a specific tag, just click on its name.
Unfortunately, Mozilla Thunderbird has no settings for blocking mail from specific counterparties or domains. However, to get rid of unwanted correspondence, you can use message filters. Messages are filtered at the account level, so you need to configure the work with each account separately.
To do this, just right-click on the sender’s address in the message and select “Create filter from ...” in the context menu.
The "Filtering Rules" window opens, where the address of the unwanted respondent is already inserted. You should give a name to the filter and in the pop-up window with the action assign deletion, and then save the filter by clicking the "OK" button.
This filter can be edited by clicking on the “Create message filters” item in the toolbar of the account. Select the filter of interest, click the “Change” button, and then click on the “+” sign opposite the email address to add a new one.
Quick Filter Panel
Using this tool, you can limit the number of messages displayed in the main window. It is used to display letters from a specific recipient or those that are assigned certain labels.
This item is located above the message list. To enable the panel, you need to click the "Quick Filter" button on the toolbar. To apply a filter, just click on its name. By default, the following filters are provided:
- Button - saves the use of filters when switching between folders,
- Two dots - shows only unread messages,
- Asterisk - Only messages marked with an asterisk,
- Contacts - only messages from senders from the address book,
- Tags - only messages with specific tags,
- Attachments - messages that have attached files.
You can apply multiple filters at the same time. Also, as mentioned above, you can sort correspondence by several tags.
Electronic business card
The standard format for electronic business cards is vCard. Such a file may contain contact information, as well as useful data: links to sites, graphic materials (photos, company logos). An electronic business card is usually added so that the counterparty can quickly add you to your contact list. It also helps minimize signature, as there is no need to duplicate contact information at the end of each message. Of course, you can add a caption with a picture to Mozilla Thunderbird, but in the age of the development of digital technologies this looks already solid. vCard will help to shape the image of a successful person, keeping up with technological progress.
In order to automatically add a business card to all sent messages, you need to go to the account settings by right-clicking on it and selecting the appropriate item.
You can enter all the contact information by clicking the "Edit Business Card" button and filling in the required fields in the window that opens. If checked, vCard will be attached to all sent messages.
If you do not want to use this option as a Mozilla Thunderbird letter template, but want to selectively attach a business card to some messages, do not check the box. Instead, when writing a new message, select the option “Attach” - “Business Card (vCard)”.
The business card is attached to the message as a file with the extension .vcf. Mozilla Thunderbird automatically detects this format and displays a preview of the business card in the body of the message. Just click on the contact icon to add the attached information to the address book.
The function only works if the format of the business card is “Source HTML”.
Mozilla Thunderbird Calendar
The Lightning add-on needed for the calendar is included in the Mozilla Thunderbird software package by default. You can install additional components, such as a calendar button bar. The functionality of Mozilla Thunderbird will not change, just working with the calendar will become more convenient. Here we will look at how to use the calendar based on the basic interface.
To create an event or event, you can use the combination Ctrl + I or the “New Event” button on the calendar panel. The same function is available on the toolbar - the "Create" button.
The menu for creating an event will open, in which the required fields should be filled (all are optional, some can be left empty).
When changing the start date of an event, the end date automatically changes to the same time.
If the event does not have a time reference, you can check the box "All day". Start and end times are not available for input.
To create a new task, click on the "Create" button on the toolbar or the key combination Ctrl + D. The interface of the create window is almost the same as creating an event.
The difference is that by default the start and end times are not set. To assign it, you must put the appropriate checkmarks.
Invitation to participants
Mozilla Thunderbird helps you keep track of which guest respondents would like to attend. An invitation can also be sent to contacts who do not use mail agents or use Outlook Express.
To invite to the event creation menu, click the "Invite Participants" button.
In the left part of the window that opens, there is a list to which you can add participants from your address book.
Make sure the “Notify Participants” box is checked when creating an event!
Create a new calendar in Mozilla Thunderbird
To create an additional calendar, you must open a new tab with the calendar by clicking the "Calendar" button in the upper right corner of the window. Click on the existing calendar located on the left side of the window, right-click and select "New Calendar" in the context menu.
In the next window, select the location of the calendar:
- Local - will only work on the computer on which it is created. Data is stored in the local Mozilla Thunderbird profile.
- Network - can be stored on different types of servers or use the Google Calendar for synchronization. It also provides for synchronizing the Yandex calendar with Mozilla Thunderbird and some other similar services.
The next step is to set the name and color of the calendar. When creating a Mozilla Thunderbird network calendar, you can check the "Work offline" checkbox to use this feature. The creation of a new calendar is confirmed by pressing the OK button.
Where are letters stored in Mozilla Thunderbird
All user files - settings, account, letters, etc. are stored in the profile folder. The easiest way to find this folder is to click on the main menu of the program, select the “Help” - “Information for solving problems” section. In the window that opens, click the "Open Folder" button opposite the profile section to navigate to the directory of interest using Windows Explorer.
Letters are stored in encoded form in the Inbox (incoming) and Sent (outgoing) files. These files do not have an extension.
